Vancouver Eco Fashion Week: Kdon by Kim Cathers

The Kdon by Kim Cathers show started with a great short video about Our Social Fabric that asked us to look at how much we throw away as a society. When we throw things away, where exactly is "away"? It is in a landfill, or in a landfill oversees, or maybe a recycling plant if you are lucky. We can reduce our waste by reusing fabric, something that Our Social Fabric can help us do.

The collection seemed like it was entirely upcycled, apart from a few tank tops that were paired with the high design skirts. Despite being comprised of a variety of all different materials, the collection still had a flow. I think this was due to a clear design concept and vision, the designer Kim Cathers kept her identity throughout the show.

I also thought that this was one of few of the shows that seemed to have a narrative, and the music was a big part of that. I'm still not exactly sure what the narrative way, but I know there was one. The show ended with a model in a black dress waiving around a bouquet of lilies. It was a great finale and the model seemed to be having fun. She really knew how to work it, they all did!

One of the most dramatic looks was a long blue/gray vest paired with a mini dress accented with a corset waist and statement shoulders. The accessories on this look were spot on too. Check out the leading photo on this post for that look.
